How To Reach Out To Millennials

Millennials, a self-absorbed group with a short attention span and a marketer’s worst nightmare. According to Pew Pew Research, Millennials are those born between 1981-1996 and have led the other groups in adopting the technology. With more than 92% owning smartphones and 85% using social media, they value experience over material possessions.

So, how do you reach out to them?

Be Authentic – Especially in your communication. Millennials are not keen on traditional ads. They prefer to research more about the business and would merely ignore print and tv ads. While their parents focus more on product features and prices, millennials demand more from companies. They will align themselves with purpose-driven businesses.

Social Media – There’s no escaping this. If millennials can’t find you on the social media platforms, they might not take you seriously.

Before social media, customers had to use the feedback form on the company’s website to communicate with the business and end up waiting for the response, which could take up to 24 hours. That is no longer acceptable. Millennials are not as patient and could give your business a bad review. Having a social media account requires one to develop a digital marketing strategy that is engaging.

Influencers – Most successful brands use influencers to push their new products. It could be costly depending on the campaign, but the return on investment is worthwhile. Advertising with an influencer will not only boost your brand awareness but also connect your brand with your target audience.

Interactive Experience – Does the business provide an interactive experience or appeal to their values? Millennials would love to interact with their favorite brands. There are several ways of doing that. For example, in 2014, Coca Cola ran the  “Share a Coke” campaign which had a significant impact on the point of having its consumers share their experience on all social media platforms. It was a very successful campaign.

TIPS TO GET SALES FROM YOUR SOCIAL MEDIAS

Ever heard of “Content is fire and social media is gasoline” by Jay Baer? For a business to successfully sell on their social media accounts, they must have quality content first. After that, a solid social media strategy.

Compared to traditional methods, social media is more involving. You need to know your audience and turn them into brand advocates. It is all about the customer experience.

What is the focus of your business?

You will also need to define the focus of your business. Is your business focused on business-to-business (B2B) or business-to-customer (B2C). This is very important because it will help you identify which social media platform to choose from.

Know your audience

Knowing your audience and which platform they use could save you a lot of time and money. If you are a B2B business, you will get a better response using LinkedIn than Facebook or Twitter. Depending on your audience’s age or interests, you can easily identify the right platform.

Identify platforms used by your audience

You might not have the time and resources to be on all the social media platforms. One way or another, social media users will discuss your products and services. You just have to conduct an audit to identify the most used platform.

Advertising

Social media advertising is cheaper but the Return On Investment depends on your content and budget. Most social media platforms use the bidding system, depending on your budget you can customize your Ad to get the most out of it. It is highly recommended for you to have a landing page. This will make the purchase process simple and generate leads for future conversion.

Social media influencers

This is expensive but one of the most effective methods of social media marketing. The influencer’s audience doesn’t need much convincing.

The influencers can either feature in your Ads or have them review or talk about your products.

Encourage Reviews

According to Pew Research Center, 67% of weekly online shoppers read customer reviews before purchasing them.

There are ways to get your customers to review your products and services. You can either ask a customer that has already praised your products and services on the comment section to leave a review or send a follow-up email requesting for it. Don’t expect a customer to do it willingly.
